What is Work Simulation?

 Work simulation uses real or simulated tasks as the assessment and rehabilitation tool. Rather than relying only on conversation or abstract opinion, tasks are selected, graded and observed in a structured environment to build and verify capacity relevant to work and function. This allows progress to be measured through practical demands such as lifting, carrying, postural tolerance, hand use, repetition, problem-solving, pacing and task endurance.

When WorkGain is Most Useful

WorkGain is particularly valuable when function needs to be tested   or developed in a way that is practical, measurable and relevant to   real-world demands. 

Useful when: 

  • capacity is uncertain and needs real-world   verification; 
  • progress has plateaued despite standard treatment; 
  • fear and/or distress;
  • low confidence or deconditioning is limiting task engagement;   
  • suitable duties are unavailable or difficult to stage in the actual workplace; 
  • a future role, alternate pathway or broader participation capacity needs to be explored; 
  • an objective, work-relevant assessment is needed to guide decision-making.
