Churros, WorkGain style. 😀 Improvisation using a caulking gun and PVC pipe. Why not, if it works.
"From a serious spine-crushing injury, I returned to work as a Chef after just 4 weeks at WorkGain".
There’s still some way to go, but we are having fun.
What worked?
The ability to set my own goals, which increased confidence, which in turn increased self-efficay. And yes tailoring the tasks every step of the way.
8.6kg flying towards you, 300 times in 30 minutes and 300 times you have to throw the 8.6kg back to the next person down the line in 30 minutes. 🤯🤯🤯
I lasted 10 throws, if that, I had enough. I asked him to sit for 1 hr and write his case notes so that he could feel some of my demands. He lasted 15 minutes and had enough.
He can still throw 600 times, in pain but he would rather do that than have my job. He was older and stronger then me and this was a realisation for him that we are all different and wired for jobs differently. He doesn't want to do anything else.
We always strive to change ways people do things but he said this is just how the job is done. Non negotiable, not able to automate, need to find the way to live with it.
We moved on, accepted it and changed the posture and leading stance which worked much better 💪; needs some getting used to but he is ok with this as he doesn't want to sit in front of computer and do management.
This collaboration approach allows us to negotiate and brainstorm as opposed to just to make the "best practice" recommendations at the back of 1 hr visit at the site, and move on. People won't follow what we say if it doesn't make sense to them and it's not commercially viable.
